Phantom Wallet Airdrop is Just a Rumor, Developer: No Plans to Launch a Token

Bittime - Rumors regarding a possible token launch and airdrop from Phantom Wallet, a leading non-custodial crypto wallet, has been outright debunked by its developer. 

Through an official statement on January 3 on the X platform (formerly Twitter), Phantom emphasized that they have no plans to launch any tokens.

“We have seen speculation about an airdrop related to this new feature. To clarify, we has no plans to launch a token,” wrote the Phantom team. “However, we are very excited about the social discovery features in Phantom and continue to work hard to make it a feature that everyone loves.”

This announcement comes as the launch of a new feature titled social discovery on December 19, 2024. This feature allows users to create a profile, add friends, as well as choose the profile privacy level—public, private, or invisible.

This feature sparked speculation in the crypto community, including user X by the name of “Slim,” who claimed that users of the feature would earn tokens in exchange for their activities, such as following other users or gaining followers. However, this claim has now been confirmed to be untrue.

Integrated Blockchain Layer-1

In other developments, Phantom also announced plans to integrate blockchain layer-1 Sui in December 2024. This blockchain will be the fourth network Phantom supports, after Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. This integration process is scheduled to take place in early 2025.

Phantom Wallet continues to solidify its position as one of the most popular crypto wallets. Until April 2024, this application is listed 7 million monthly active users, making it one of the leaders in the non-custodial wallet market.
