Astroport Hit by Cyber ​​Attack, ASTRO Token Drops More than 50% in 24 Hours

Bittime - Astroport, a DeFi protocol based on the Neutron network, fell victim to a cyberattack that resulted in the illegal minting of millions of ASTRO tokens. The attack triggered a massive sale of ASTRO tokens by hackers, causing the token price to drop drastically.

Chronology of Cyber ​​Attacks on Astroports

On July 30, 2024, John Galt, chief strategist of Stride, issued a warning that Astroport may have been hacked. According to Galt, hackers managed to exploit a recently discovered code loophole in Astroport, which made it possible to illegally mint ASTRO tokens on the Neutron network. 

The hacker has reportedly sold around 15 million ASTRO tokens and still has 39 million tokens ready to sell. Data from CoinMarketCap shows that ASTRO price has decreased by 56.27% in the last 24 hours and is currently trading at $0.01988.  

Astroport Hacker Address on Terra and Neutron

Astroport hackers used two main addresses to carry out this illegal activity, namely on the Terra network and the Neutron network. On Terra, hackers interacted with a contract they created previously, which was apparently used to illegally mint ASTRO tokens. 

Tim Astroport Has Not Yet Commented

Until now, the Astroport development team has not provided an official comment regarding this cyber attack. However, this warning from John Galt has sparked concerns about potential vulnerabilities in the protocol code. Users and investors are advised to be careful and avoid purchasing ASTRO tokens until the Astroport team provides confirmation regarding this cyber attack.
