Previously, Bitcoin and Ethereum got the green light for Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). Now, it's Dogecoin's turn to get closer to the approval stage. 

NYSE Arca, a subsidiary of the New York Stock Exchange, has just submitted a formal proposal to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to approve the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF. 

If approved, this would be a milestone for DOGE. This will pave the way for institutional investors to access these digital assets in a more structured and regulated manner.

On March 3, 2025, NYSE Arca officially filed document 19b-4 with the SEC. This document is an important step in the regulatory process that will allow the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF to be listed under NYSE Arca rule 8.201-E, which regulates commodity-based products such as gold and silver.

This move is a continuation of a previous filing in January 2025, where Bitwise filed an S-1 form with the SEC. With this latest filing, the SEC now has time to review the proposal before making a final decision. 

If approved, this ETF will allow investors to invest in Dogecoin through a safer mechanism that complies with US financial regulations.

About Dogecoin ETFs

This Dogecoin ETF is designed to provide exposure to the price of Dogecoin without the need to purchase the digital asset directly. This product will use a cash-based creation and redemption system. Meaning, investors will not receive or deposit DOGE directly.

The security of the digital assets in this ETF will be handled by Coinbase Custody, which will act as the primary custodian of the Dogecoin held by the fund.

Meanwhile, Bank of New York Mellon (BNY Mellon) will be responsible for cash storage, administration and transaction recording.

Bitwise is not the only company pursuing a Dogecoin ETF. Grayscale and Rex Shares have also submitted similar proposals to the SEC. 

Grayscale has even received official recognition from the SEC, which is starting the regulatory evaluation process. This indicates that the potential for Dogecoin ETF approval is becoming more real in the near future.
