According to data from BitcoinTreasuries.org, public companies holding Bitcoin now control 2.8% of the total limited Bitcoin supply, namely 21 million BTC. Here are the 10 largest companies that own Bitcoin based on the latest data in January 2025:

1. MicroStrategy

MicroStrategy, a business analytics software company, is a leader in Bitcoin holdings among public companies. Since 2020, they have been aggressively buying Bitcoin, making it the company's main reserve asset.

Currently, MicroStrategy has 461.000 BTC, equivalent to more than $48 billion. This strategy was led by Michael Saylor, who claimed that this step had improved the company's performance up to 30 times compared to competitors in the same industry.

Michael Saylor himself personally holds 17.732 BTC, which is now worth approx $1.85 billion. MicroStrategy even plans to buy more Bitcoin in the near future, with a fundraising target of up to $42 billion.

2. Marathon Digital Holdings

As one of the largest Bitcoin mining companies in North America, Marathon Digital Holdings holds 44.394 BTC worth more than $4.6 billion.

The company operates more than 250,000 mining machines with an average hash rate capacity of 26.3 EH/s. Following the Bitcoin halving in 2024, Marathon increased its operational capacity to mitigate the impact of reduced mining rewards.

3. Riot Platforms, Inc.

Riot Platforms, previously known as Riot Blockchain, is a US-based Bitcoin mining company that currently owns 17.722 BTC, equivalent to approx $1.85 billion.

In 2024, Riot continued to expand its operations by acquiring new mining facilities and completing strategic mergers with other companies. Despite experiencing a decline in shares, Riot remains committed to increasing efficiency and expanding its operational scale.

4. Galaxy Digital Holdings

Galaxy Digital, a merchant banking company focused on digital assets, has 11.242 BTC with a value of approx $1.18 billion.

Founded by Michael Novogratz, Galaxy Digital is also involved in asset management and digital infrastructure services for institutions. The company recently launched a spot Bitcoin ETF product that has received approval from the SEC.

5. Hut 8 Corp

Hut 8, a Canadian Bitcoin mining company, has 10.096 BTC with a value of more than $1 billion.

In 2023, Hut 8 merged with US company Bitcoin to create an energy infrastructure company focused on Bitcoin mining. With six mining locations, this company has a large production capacity.
