Tether is Minting 1 Billion USDT on Tron, but Not Issued Yet!

Tether is Minting 1 Billion USDT

Paul Ardoino, CEO of Tether, immediately provided clarification regarding this large print run. According to him, the printing of 1 billion USDT is to increase the Tron network inventory. 

Ardoino confirms that this is an approved transaction, but not yet issued. In other words, this additional USDT will be used to fulfill subsequent issuance requests as well as supply for cross-network exchanges.

This means that even though it has been printed, this USDT has not yet been circulated to the market. The USDT will remain in Tether's control until there is an issuance request from the market. This is to ensure sufficient liquidity across the various blockchain networks supported by Tether.

Why is USDT Minted on the Tron Network?

The Tron network has become one of the main blockchain networks for USDT, besides Ethereum. With lower transaction fees and faster speeds, Tron is a popular choice for users looking to avoid high gas fees on Ethereum. 

USDT minting on Tron is nothing new. Previously, on July 16 2024, Tether also printed USDT on the Tron network. That means, the demand for USDT, whether for crypto trading, cross-network exchange, or other urgent needs.

Impact of USDT Minting on Crypto Markets

Large printings of stablecoins often fuel speculation in the crypto market. Many saw it as a possible sign of increased liquidity influencing prices of other digital assets. 

However, in this case, because the USDT has not yet been issued and is still under Tether's control, the impact on market prices will likely be minimal in the short term.
