Crypto Gaming Token Out of Top 100, Trend is Over?

Crypto Gaming Tokens No Longer Dominate the Crypto Market

The latest data from CoinGecko shows that there are none token crypto gaming which is in the list of top 100 cryptos based on market capitalization. 

The last token to survive was Immutable (IMX), but has now slipped to a position outside the Top 100.

Meanwhile, CoinMarketCap still displays several crypto gaming tokens at the bottom of the list

However, the reality is not much different, the crypto gaming sector is in decline. Several projects that once received great attention in the world of gaming and blockchain technology, have now seen their value decline sharply.

Token Crypto Gaming: Once Shining, Now Fading

If we look back, exactly a year ago, there were six token crypto gaming which is included in the top 100 list. 

In fact, according to archives from the Wayback Machine, at that time the total market capitalization of CoinGecko's gaming token category reached around $29.3 billion. 

But now, that figure has fallen by 68%, leaving only around $9.24 billion, even though the number of new tokens being launched continues to increase.

Token Crypto Gaming: Immutable (IMX)

Immutable (IMX), based on the Ethereum ecosystem, is the crypto gaming token sector's last hope. 

In December 2023, IMX is still ranked 31st globally, even receiving a positive prediction from investment company VanEck which says IMX can break into the top 25 in 2024.  

However, dIn the past year, IMX's value has continued to decline by 87%. One of the reasons is the slowing interest in the blockchain-based gaming sector in general, as well as an SEC investigation which has now reportedly been closed. 

In the past week, IMX fell 29%, much larger than Bitcoin's decline of only around 10%. This decline made IMX the worst performing token in CoinGecko's Top 100 before finally dropping to 103rd position.

Other Crypto Gaming Tokens  

Other crypto gaming tokens such as Gala Games (GALA) and The Sandbox (SAND) also suffered a similar fate. GALA is down 80% from a year ago, including a 19% drop in just the last week. 

Meanwhile, SAND plunged 64% in the same period and is down 16% in just the last seven days. In fact, these two crypto gaming tokens reached their peak in popularity in 2021.

Even new projects are not immune from this negative trend. The PIXEL token of the Pixels game launched last year experienced a sharp drop of up to 98% from its peak price. 

Notcoin (NOT), which also got a lot of attention, is now down 94%, as well as the Hamster Kombat token (HMSTR) which is down 68%.

Crypto Gaming Token Era is Over?

This situation raises big questions about whether the era was glorious token crypto gaming has ended? Or is this just an adjustment phase before a new awakening? 

Although blockchain technology in the gaming world is still developing, its economic value is clearly experiencing a crisis. 

Investors and developers must now begin to reconsider business models, incentive mechanisms and long-term project sustainability if they are to survive and recoveraway.
