Pectra Ethereum Upgrade Starts Implementing on May 7, 2025

Initially, the Ethereum Pectra upgrade was scheduled for release in March 2025, but a number of issues on the Holesky testnet caused delays. 

The Holesky testnet experiences finality problems, which means transactions cannot be confirmed with certainty. To address this, Ethereum launched the Hoodi testnet which ended up running without any major hitches.

Additionally, a minor issue also occurred on the Sepolia testnet in early March, but was quickly detected and fixed by the Ethereum development team. With various improvements that have been made, Pectra finally has a confirmed launch date.

Key Features of Pectra Ethereum Upgrade

Pectra Ethereum upgrade will bring a number of important changes aimed at improving the scalability of the Ethereum network. 

One of the big changes is the increase in validator staking limits from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. This allows larger validators to increase network efficiency and reduce staking fragmentation.

Apart from that, the most striking feature is the introduction account abstraction. With this feature, users can pay gas or transaction fees using a variety of tokens, including stablecoins, in addition to ETH. 

Pectra improves crypto wallet functionality, including feature implementation social recovery, which allows users to restore access to the wallet in an easier way if they lose their seed phrase.

Impact of Pectra Ethereum Upgrade 

Even though the Pectra Ethereum upgrade has had a positive impact on the Ethereum ecosystem, the price of ETH remains under pressure due to global market conditions.

Following President Donald Trump's "Liberation Day" tariff policy announcement, the crypto market experienced a sharp decline. ETH price fell 6.3% in the last 24 hours to $1,773, while Bitcoin fell 5.4% to $81,725.

Traders also predict that Ethereum will not experience a recovery in the near future. Currently, traders are predicting an 84% chance that ETH will remain below the $1,850 level through the weekend.
